More information : The road was first erroneously identified in 1955 as part of a temporary camp. In April 1956 further fieldwork showed it was almost certainly a road running out of the east gate of the fort. It appeared as a prominent causeway about 12 feetwide, across the soft ground from within the east gate of the large fort. After running eastward for 90 yards it turned north through an angle of 114 degrees and then soon petered out as it reached fairly firm ground. Probing could not locate any side ditches but the agger itself was found to be very hard and solid. The approximate course of the road is NY 20253682 to NY 20403685. T M Allan located a possible agger (NY 23 NW 20) which he suggested may be a continuation of this road about 4/5ths of a mile to the NE. (1-3)
