Monument Number 975846

Hob Uid: 975846
Location :
Cumbria
Barrow-in-Furness
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SD2191071580
Summary : Earthwork remains of two slit trenches, probably dating to the Second World War.
More information : A regular shallow slot on the crest of a slope at SD 2209 7157, cut
through narrow ridge and furrow, is possibly the trace of a Home
Guard trench placed to overlook the railway cutting to the north. The
feature is approximately 10 m long and 1 m wide.

At the western end of the same ridge and within the same field is
another slot of the same form, but V-shaped in plan, at SD 2172 7160.
This is cut into a natural knoll, which may have been modified by
cultivation or the addition of waste from the quarry immediately to
the north, and overlooks a valley to the south. This trench is about
6 m long overall and 1 m wide. (1)
