More information : ST 487 168 (FCE) A rapid examination of air photography (1a) suggests the presence of a possible field system, of Prehistoric or Roman date, visible as cropmarks within Ham Hill. The features may be connected with the villa (ST 41 NE 8). (1)
The cropmarks were transcribed as part of the RCHME Ham Hill Survey Project. They represent a system of rectilinear fields within the north-eastern part of the interior of Ham Hill hillfort. The site of the principal building range of the Roman villa lies to the south. There is evidence for further fields, of prehistoric or Roman date, elsewhere on the hilltop. (2)
The area has been heavily ploughed and the fields do not survive as above ground features. (3)
