Location :

More information : (SE 5700 3727 - SE 5745 3781. Only the section of Bishop Dike adjoining Cawood Castle (SE 53 NE 2) and Castle Garth (SE 53 NE 20) was examined during the RCHME Cawood Survey. It is now re-cut, V-shaped, and about 3.5 m below the surrounding ground (near Cawood); within the village itself is has been piped underground. According to Bell (a), before 1385 it was widened and straightened to make the canal, and it also provided power to drive the water wheels in the village for which there are written records dating to 1650.
