More information : Tower 12B located by J A Inglis in 1955 and excavated by R L Bellhouse in August 1956. The excavation at NY 10125161 (sited from plan see authority 1a) revealed the stump of a slight structure c 8ft sq internally, built of re-used stone with no dating material. It stood on the remains of a typical Hadrianic tower, whose occupation was attested by five hearths and sherds of dark latticed cooking pots, one of which had been mended with a lead rivet. (1)
The site of tower 12b is now represented by the remains of Bellhouse's excavation trench (see authority 1) on the downslope of a dune at the southern end of Bitterlees Golf course at NY 1009 5163. This position was verified on the ground by Bellhouse (2a). The view to the North is somewhat obscured by the dunes. (2)
