More information : [NZ 30036589] Roman remains found [T.I.] (1)
The bath-house seems to have lain S.W. of the fort nera the old Fawdon Staithe (2), where, in 1814, workmen came across Roman masonry, apparently the remains of a considerable building. Coins and a cauldron were also found. (2-3)
Structure conceived to be a bath near the river bank. It was immediately removed, but marked on plan. [Plan marking agrees the the Ordnance Survey siting above.] (4)
Completely built over. (5)
According to Maclauchlans Map of 1857 (authy 4) the site of this bath-house appears to lie about 121m south of the south-west corner of the fort and not at the published site. Apart from this I could find no further information. (6) |
