More information : TF 0959 2020. Medieval town of Bourne. First mentioned in a document of 960. (1a) Mentioned in the Cartularium saxonicum of 1060 (1b), and in the Domesday Book as `Brune' (1c) and as `Brunna' in a charter of 1138 (1d). The name derives from the Old English `Burna' meaning stream. Burna is from earlier brunna, and this form was no doubt in use in some dialects in the Old English period. (1)
