More information : ITG 23490905) BISHOP'S GREAT GATE (NR) (1) Built c 1436 by Bishop Alnwick. 2 storeys flint faced with stone quions. Grade 1. (2,3) The original carved doors to carriage and pedestrian arches by Bishop Lyhart c 1460 are still in position (a) and the gateway is in excellent condition. See Ground Photographs. (4) Gateway and Porter's Lodge. Large moulded arch with smaller pedestrian arch to right, vaulted inside. 2-storey porter's lodge to west of gate, brick built barrel vault undercroft with stone doorway. (5)
