More information : [NY 172 027] STONE CIRCLES [G.T.] (1) There are two stone circles on Low Longrigg a 1/4 mile W.N.W. of the Eskdale stone-circle [NY 10 SE 1] One about 50' diameter, consisting of 9 stones and inclosing a barrow; the other about 75' x 65', inclosing two barrows. A number of ancient "dykes", consisting of a slight ditch and embankment, intersect the moor near these remains. (2) Description correct, but both circles are poorly defined most of the stones being at ground level and difficult to find in rough pasture. All the internal barrows are cairns. DAP (AP 72.342.224). The 'ancient dykes' are part of an extensive field system (see NY10 SE 12). (3) The two Low Longrigg stone circles are listed by Burl as 'ruined but recognisable', with internal cairns. (See illust).
