A small, irregular, two storey rubble building of cottage character, and ancient but indeterminate date. Various windows. Slate roof. Said to incorporate the remains of a mediaeval monastic cell. (2)
Aldermans Haw Leic. A Cluniac cell founded c. 1220-1235, dis - 1450. A prior of Bermondsey is recorded here. The house was reported to be in ruins c. 1450. (3) (3a) (3b)
Architectural description of authority 2 correct. Some exterior stone work shows signs of antiquity but nothing else identifies Alderman's Haw with an earlier building on the site. G.P. AO 60/192/3 from E. (4)
Architecture and general form of construction indicate this building to be of probable 17 c date with later restoration/s; no monastic remains could be identified. (5)
Undergoing renovations and has been painted white, but no structural alterations have been made. (6) |
