More information : TA 2110 4744/TA 2117 4743. Anti-tank cubes.
This single line of 34 anti-tank cubes was intended to prevent enemy forces from travelling along the beach, and to force them into heavily defended areas. Positioned at right angles to the sea front, the cubes were of reinforced concrete construction and formed part of a much larger system. The site was plotted from aerial photographs by the Fortress Studies Group, but when they visited it in 1992, they found the site to be totally destroyed. (1-1a)
The monument is also visible as upstanding structures on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. Due to coastal erosion the monument no longer survives in situ. (2)
