Summary : World War II weapons pit, Hornsea. Plotted from aerial photographs, but now totally destroyed.
More information : TA 2026 4866. Weapons pit. This weapons pit took the form of a circular earthen hollow intersected by a hedge. It was situated at the north of Hornsea, and was plotted from aerial photographs dated 1945. The site was visited by the Fortress Studies Group during the Holderness Survey, they found the site was totally destroyed. (1-1a) The monument is also visible as earthworks on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. Also visible barbed wire as upstanding structures. (2) Weapons pit in the form of a circular earthen hollow surrounded by barbed wire and intersected by a hedge. It was situated at the north end of Hornsea. Destroyed by 1992. (3)
