More information : TA 2042 4880. Lozenge pillbox.
(see TA 14 NE/16 for full description)
This pillbox, situated to the north side of Hornsea on Cliff Road, is of the standard lozenge design. It was of reinforced concrete construction and formed part of the extensive system of anti-invasion and landing containment defences around Hornsea. The site was plotted by the Fortress Studies Group from aerial photographs dated 1945. The Fortress Studies Group also visited the site in 1992 as part of the Holderness Survey. They found that the site was totally destroyed. (1-1a)
The monument is also visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. The pillbox appears to be surrounded by a barbed wire perimeter. (2)
