More information : (TA 2767 3703) Coast artillery searchlight.
This searchlight battery was to provide light for the Ringbrough battery in its close defence role. It was situated on the cliff top to the south east of the main battery complex, and housed a 90cm DEL (Defence Electric Light). The building was almost rectangular, and has a semi-circular wall facing seawards, it was constructed of brick with a concrete roof. The building was plotted from aerial photographs dated 1945 but when it was visited by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992 as part of the Holderness Survey, it was found to have been totally destroyed by the effects of coastal erosion. The monument is also visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. Due to coastal erosion the monument no longer survives in situ. (1b)
