Hob Uid: 915389
Location :
East Riding of Yorkshire
Aldbrough
Grid Ref : TA2755037105
Summary : World War II coast artillery searchlight at Ringbrough Battery. Plotted from aerial photographs, now totally destroyed.
More information : (TA 2757 3710) Coastal artillery searchlight battery.

This searchlight battery was positioned to the south east of the main
Ringbrough Battery complex. The building was basically rectangular in
shape, having a semi-circular wall facing seawards behind which was
set a 90cm DEL. The wall had a large opening which covered by metal
shutters which would be opened when the searchlight was in operation.
The building was brick built, but had a re-inforced concrete roof.
The building was plotted from aerial photographs by the Fortress
Studies Group in 1992. The Fortress Studies Group also visited the
site during the Holderness Survey, and found it to be totally
destroyed by the effects of erosion. (1-1a-1b)

The monument is also visible as an earthwork and structures on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary.
Also visible a potential pillbox and a gun emplacement.
Due to coastal erosion the monument no longer survives in situ.
