More information : This site has been re-assessed in connection with RCHME's survey and publication of Roman Camps in England. The following descriptive account is taken from the published text. All elements of Chew Green complex now assigned unique identifiers under parent record NT 70 NE 3.
'Fortlet' II. The ditch of this postulated fortlet is known only from Richmond's trenching which traced it, apparently, on the SW, NW and SE within the later fortlet (V). It was said to enclose an area of 52 m by 40 m within its ditch, which seems to have been slighter than the excavators' published description suggested; no trace of an attendant rampart was identified (Richmond and Keeney 1937, pl xxi, 145-6, 148-9 (1a); Richmond Notebook 19, Ashmolean Museum (1b). Full information is included in the NMR Archive. (1)
