More information : (TA 1386 4850) "A" type hanger.
This steel framed "A'" type hanger is a rare occurance. This type of hanger was one of the earlier types and is characterised, along with the "C" type by a saw tooth roof design. The "A'" and "C" can be distinguished by their size, the "A" being much the smaller. The "A" type measured 122ft 5in x 250ft whilst the door clearance was 120ft x 30ft This hanger is situated to the centre of the Catfoss airfield complex. It is a steel framed structure with concrete and brick walls. When the site was surveyed by the Fortress Studies Group for the FSG,RCHME: Holderness Survey in 1992 it was in excellent condition and did not appear to be in any risk. (1)
A "type A aeroplane shed" (hangar) at Catfoss was extant in 199 when it was noted to be in use as a factory for constructing steel containers for use on cargo ships. (2)
