Summary : A Thor missile site at Catfoss Airfield. This post-war Inter Continental Ballistic Missile site comprised 3 concrete Thor missile launchers and is located within the airfield. The missiles were withdrawn in 1963.
More information : (TA 1349 4811) `THOR' Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile site (ICBM) This post-war ICBM site comprised 3 concrete Thor missile launchers and is located within the airfield. When the site was surveyed in 1992 by the Fortress Studies Group the site was in good condition although they are at some risk. (1) Thor missiles were introduced to Catfoss in 1958-1959. They are described in Robinson's article as IRBMs (presumably Inter Regional Ballistic Missiles). They were operated by226 Squadron RAF. The missiles were withdrawn in 1963. (2)
