An Iron Age/Roman linear enclosure complex with central double ditched trackway is visible as cropmarks on aerial photography. The central double ditched trackway runs east west in alignment and is considered to be part of the later prehistoric system of linear features in the region termed as the Wolds entrenchments (HOB ID 1040086/79868). This feature is known to run for at least 1634m of which 275m was mapped as part of the Yorkshire Wolds Aerial Reassessment Pilot. A series of rectilinear enclosures have been appended to the southern side of the trackway likely representing some form of linear settlement complex and there are a series of pits noted within the enclosed areas. There is a circular feature measuring 10m in diameter which may represent a roundhouse. To the north there further hints of enclosure, less condensed in nature and slightly removed from the trackway. This feature was mapped from available aerial photography as part of the Yorkshire Wolds Aerial Reassessment Pilot however it should be viewed in conjunction with mapping for the Yorkshire Wolds Project for further detail and context.(3)
