17-MAY-1979: Wreck located using magnetometer in 503520N, 050731W [OGB] using Decca.
08-MAR-1999: Positively identified by London divers in 1997 as the LAKE OWENS. Ship's bell recovered. Position 5035.72N, 0507.70W using Decca. Shell casings on deck marked 'NY (NEW YORK)'.
27-OCT-1999: Located in 1984. Position 5035.20N, 0507.31W [OGB] using Decca. Confirmed as the LAKE OWENS.
18-SEP-2001: Examined in 5035.413N, 0507.513W [WGD] using DGPS. The least echosounder depth was 42.7m in a general depth of 51m. No scour. Length 92m. Width 44m. Side scan sonar height 9.0m. The wreck is orientated 030/210 degrees. It is intact but collapsed.
25-MAR-2010: Located in 5035.412N, 0507.515W [WGD]. The least multibeam depth was 44.18m in a general depth of 50.9m. No scour. Length 84.7m. Width 12.2m. Height 6.72m. The wreck is orientated 031/211 degrees, with the bows to the SW. (9)(10)

Wreck event and documentary evidence:
Place of loss 3 miles NW by W 1/2 W of Trevose Head. (2)
Torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB125, which also sank the Portuguese steamship BRAVA at about the same time and place. A total of 44 survivors from both vessels were landed by patrol boats at Newquay, which are presumed to have included the 24 survivors of this vessel. (4)
