More information : Was first seen at daybreak after she had become embayed with little chance of getting back out to sea. The Bude Coastguard and rocket brigade followed her progress along the coast road at Millook until she struck near Widemouth, three miles south of Bude at 12.40pm. She went ashore in a small cove where there is no beach, being nothing more than a mass of rock and huge boulders, over which the rocket apparatus had to be carried. Within 10 mins of going ashore the first rocket line was fired and by 1.55am the first survivor was landed. At 2am a man and a boy came off together but the boy fell out of the breeches; a Coastguard Dongey plunged into the sea to his rescue and managed to save him. The last seaman still on board then had a fit, and had to be transported in the breeches buoy along with the captain to support him; at this stage the overloaded main hawser broke and both fell into the sea, but were rescued by locals who jumped into the sea.
