'Extract of a letter from St. Ives, Cornwall, Aug. 27.
'I am sorry to acquaint you with a melancholy scene we have had on this coast for two days past. Last Tuesday the greatest part of the day the wind was at ESE, but about 6 in the evening it came about to WNW, and suddenly blew a hurricane...About 5 miles to the westward, the TWO BROTHERS, of Wells, Francis Gardner, master, from Drogheda, laden with flax-seed, and calve-skins, bound to London, is lost with the cargo, but the master and crew, except one, miraculously saved their lives.' NB: Source (3) states the date of loss as a reporting date of 25-AUG-1752; the relevant storm, is, however, known to have run from 24-AUG to 26-AUG-1752 inclusive.
