Barlings Park

Hob Uid: 893446
Location :
Lincolnshire
West Lindsey
Barlings
Grid Ref : TF0660075000
Summary : Medieval deer park.
More information : TF 066750 (centred). Barlings Park, M deer park.
The Premonstratensian monastery of Barlings was founded
in 1154 by Ralf de Haya with endowment of Barlings vill and
church that excluded his hunting park there. Barlings Park
was added to the endowment by Nicholas de Haya before the end of
the l2th century. The field names Greate Parke and Ley Parke
occur in the post-Dissolution lease of the monastic demesne and
the name was latterly attached to that part of the parish lying W
and NW of Barlings village against the parish boundary, which
included at least one block of woodland named Barlings Park: the
curving boundary of a dyked stream from TF 0553 7541 to TF 0652
7555 may mark its N limit, perhaps continuing SE to TF 0691 7530
before turning S along the edge of the woodland to the parish
boundary. (1)
