Legge's Demi-Bastion sited from OS 2500 1966 and Auth 1) Legge's Demi-Bastion was built to the Noth of the Quay Gate between 1677 and 1688, and was named after George Legge, 1st Baron Dartmouth who was Lt-Governer of Portsmouth 1672, warden and captain of Portsmouth 1673-81. The major work of carrying out de Gomne's plan was undertaken during his governship between 1677 and 1680. It was he who in 1684 sent Thomas Philips to complete the works at Portsmouth. (1) |
