Summary : Site of Mill Redoubt, built as part of Desmaretz's modification of the Portsmouth defenced in the mid-18th century.

The Mill Redoubt had possibly been designed by Thomas Phillips, ca.1690 to cover the passage between the Harbour and the Kings' Mill Pond. It was redesigned by Desmaretz so that the Mill Gate opened onto the Gun Wharf to the North. (1)
