PEMBROKE BASTION

Pembroke Bastion, demolished circa 1870. The earliest bastion, the Four Houses Bulwark, built here dates to circa 1584-6 when Pearse and Popinjay remodelled the defences, to give additional protection to the long curtain wall. It was remodelled by de Gomme (1677-85) and Desmaretz 1745-56.
