More information : TA 078049. Owmby has a recorded population in the late 11th century as large as at any time in the later middle ages: from the later 16th century it is returned as one with Searby. Slight earthworks recorded on early APs (a) reinforce the impression that the present settlement of a simple 2-row layout on a street running at right angles to the scarp. Only fragments of side roads or ways shown on estate maps suggest the possibility of greater complexity. (1)
Part of the Medieval settlement referred to by the previous authority was seen as earthworks, around Owmby village, and mapped from poor quality air photographs. The fragmentary remains of four possible crofts are visible, to the east of Owmby Farm, centred at TA 0786 0498. (Morph No. LI.492.19.1)
