More information : SK 850890 (FCE). A deer park occupied much of the former township of Somerby and belonged to the Late Medieval or early Post Medieval mansion located just E of the DMV site (SK 88 NW 9). In 1616 the woods of the township were said to be `for the most part imparked': the rectangular park and its pale are depicted on county and area maps into the early 19th century, and the `Pale Walk' or `Deer Leap', 12m wide, is noted on its S and E sides on estate and tithe maps.
