Summary : Site of Somerby deer park.
More information : SK 850890 (FCE). A deer park occupied much of the former township of
Somerby and belonged to the Late Medieval or early Post Medieval
mansion located just E of the DMV site (SK 88 NW 9). In 1616 the
woods of the township were said to be `for the most part imparked':
the rectangular park and its pale are depicted on county and area
maps into the early 19th century, and the `Pale Walk' or `Deer Leap',
12m wide, is noted on its S and E sides on estate and tithe maps. (1)

There was no evidence of the deer park referred to by authority 1 on
the available air photographs. (2)
