More information : SK 835 885 Gainsborough deer park occupied about 144ha in the SE corner of the parish, identifiable as a coherent block of enclosed fields on early estate plans, the majority with `Park' names. A park may be indicated by grant of free warren in the 13th century; by 1601 it was disparked into closes. Traces of ridge-and-furrow, now levelled, are extensive on early APs. A moated site associated with a park keeper's lodge or house lies within the deer park, recorded in SK 88 NW 7. (1)
