Summary : Site of a possible Bronze Age round barrow forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 1 by Grinsell (1957), is located to the north of the other barrows within the cemetery. Excavations by William Cunnington in 1801 located a probable primary inhumation in a wooden coffin. The supine extended inhumation was orientated north-south. It is not certain whether the burial is Roman or Early Saxon in date. |

ST 97904271: Codford St Peter 1b, a small barrow 1.5 ft high with a probable primary inhumation with remains of a wooden coffin in a shaft 11ft deep. It may be Roman or later in date, perhaps Saxon. (1-2)
Barrow H; no trace of this barrow, presumably has been destroyed by ploughing. (3)
