Summary : A Bronze Age bowl barrow, forming part of the Aston Valley Barrow Cemetery, situated south of Codford Down. The barrow, designated as Codford St Peter 6 by Grinsell (1957), is located 130 metres east of the barrow cemetery and survives as an earthwork 30 metres in diameter and 1 metre high. Excavations in 1801 by William Cunnington located a primary cremation and a secondary inhumation which was extended, orientated southwest-northeast and accompanied by a firwood bucket bound in bronze and a possible sword or spearhead. The grave goods indicate an early Saxon date. |

Barrow F: ST 98044280 Tumuli (GT) (1)
Barrow F: Codford St Peter 6, a bowl barrow 20 paces in diameter and 5 feet high. It contained a primary cremation and an intrusive Saxon inhumation with remains of a bronze -mounted fir-wood bucket, corroded iron and 'bits of cloth'. (2-3)
Barrow F: ST 98044280: A spread bowl barrow 1.5 metres high. From the south the barrow appears much larger because of its situation on the edge of a scarp. (4)
