More information : (SP33557920. Priory Mill sited from authy.1 and OS 2500 1961.)
Priory Mill (site). Shown by Speed, date of erection and demolition unknown.(1)
Priory Mill is first mentioned as such in 1462, but was probably one of three mills held by the priory in demesne in 1280, and may be that held by Henry Millward in 1411. At that time it was described as a horse mill and water mill under one roof, and it was the only mill providing grain for the priory. After the Dissolution it was sold into private ownership, and was rebuilt in 1687. In 1831, the mill dam was deemed to be insanitary, and in 1841, the mill was condemned. It was pulled down in 1846.(2) (Forms part of St Mary's Priory, SP37NW47). |
