Grid Ref : SP3344079150
Summary : Priory Guest House, C13th, demolished 1820.
More information : (SP3447915) Priory Guest House (site of) [NR].(1)

Priory Guest House, (site). Date of erection unknown, demolished
ca.1820.(2)

The Priory Guest House stood at the former junction of Ironmonger
Lane with Palmer Lane. Views of it prior to its demolition in 1820
show it to have been three-storeyed of timber-framed construction,
and probably of late C13th or early C14th date. The upper floors had
deep jetties supported on curved brackets. Vaulted cellars below the
building survived as part of the `Pilgrim' public house, until the
construction of Trinity Street in ca.1935.(3)
(Forms part of St Mary's Priory, SP37NW47).

Two sketches exist of the Guest House prior to its demolition, and show it to have been a three-storeyed building, the first and second floors both jettied.(4)
