More information : (SP33587852) Gate (Site of) [NR].(1) Cheylesmore Gate (site). Erected in the C14th, demolished in the C19th.(2) Depicted.(3) Cheylesmore Gate, or Park Gate, was an entrance to Cheylesmore Park from Greyfriars Lane by Cheylesmore Manor House, the latter enclosed by the city walls after 1385. It was demolished before the end of the C18th.(4) The gate is depicted on a map of 1748-9 as being rectangular, pierced by a central arch, with an embattled top.(5) (Forms part of Coventry City walls, SP37NW48.)
