Uc 49

Hob Uid: 832200
Location :
Devon
South Hams
Grid Ref : SX9710248761
Summary :

Probable remains of 1918 wreck of German submarine, located 3 miles SW of Scabbacombe Head. If UC 49, she foundered after being depth-charged by the Royal Navy, in retaliation for the loss of the WARILDA hospital ship [account of wreck event: SZ 88 NE 6: two possible sites at TV 23 NW 1 and TV 24 NW 2 respectively]. The evidence of the site suggests that she capsized as she went down. For the account of the loss of UC 49, please see 1482405.
