TA 2275 3517. Shaw Fosse moated site. Scheduled RSM No 21205. A sub-rectangular island measuring 105m E-W by a maximum of 30m N-S, enclosed within a dry moat whose N and W arms are between 12m and 15m wide and up to 4m deep. The S and E arms are up to 10m wide and 3m deep. Access to the island is provided by two modern causeways across the S and E arms. The site is believed to have been a grange of Thornton Abbey, which owned estates in and around Humbleton. (3)
