Alms House founded by Michal de la Pole in 1384. 1780, red brick,
two storeys, two projecting wings, recessed centre break and
pediment. Wings three windows in width, return faces two windows,
centre seven windows, three of which are included in the break.
Roman Doric portico, semi-circular in plan, six columns, plain
entablature surmounted by semi-dome. Stone base to building and
cills to windows, which are in reveals and have gauged heads.
Modillioned wood cornice, pediment over centre break with de la Pole
arms in tympanum. Wooden cupola of six Ionic columns on a drum base
and supporting plain entablature and lead covered dome. Interior
contains a fine chapel with an "Adam" ceiling, fine casing with
enriched frieze and pediment to main doorway, 1780 enriched pulpit
set in niche in wall, most of original arrangements, and original
mahogany altar table. There are two good staircases in the building,
which consists largely of small apartments opening off corridors.
