More information : Medieval salt making site located at Habrough between 1960 and 1974 in the course of land drainage. (1)

TA 198160 area. Saltern site. At the time of Domesday the King held
one saltpan in Habrough and Newsham. In 1186 William Berner granted
pasture, land, a saltpan and banks in Habrough to Newhouse Abbey. The gift was confirmed in 1190 with details of the situation of the
saltpan, which was in the Northesse Marsh of Habrough on the north
side of the bank. This marsh lay on the north east boundary of
Habrough Marsh and a bend eastwards in the marsh bank, near Newsham
Booth, is shown on the OS 1" (1st ed) 1824; it is likely the saltpan
lay north of the bank here, at circa TA 198160. Habrough Marsh was
added to Immingham parish in 1887; the site is now occupied by
Immingham Dock. (2)
