TA 018 455. Moated site NE of Scorborough Church. Scheduled No HU/167. (5)
Scheduled notification. The moated enclosure has a raised central platform area approximately 30m square surrounded by a U shaped ditch 8-10m wide and up to 1.5m deep. (6)
Medieval/ post medieval moated enclosure is visible as an earthwork and still extant on 2011 air photography. The shape of the moated is not square, forming a platform measuring 31.5 metres across, widening to 40 metres, and 37 metres in length. Additionally the photographs show a water channel linked to the western arm of the moat, originally seen as earthworks, but levelled in 2011. The very clean cut appearance of this moat on 1946 air photography, its form, and the associated water channel suggests it may have been used in the post medieval period as a garden feature associated with house and gardens at Scorborough Hall (See UID 79197).
