The Barton Ferry, mentioned in Domesday, was still in operation in 1856. A charter of 1281 laid down that the ferry serve either Hessle or Hull.(2)
In 1855 the ferry as such came to an end and was superseded by a regular daily carrier service until 1956 and an intermittent carrier service to 1958. Since then there has been no service. (3) |
