SJ 9586 7663. Bowl barrow 100m W of Black Rock Farm. Scheduled RSM No 22568. A bowl barrow located on a slight knoll on the hillside below a broad shelf. A sub-circular mound of earth and stones is 22.5m in diameter and up to 1.6m high. Undocumented investigation of the barrow's centre has left a hollow 4m in diameter and 0.3m deep approached by a shallow trench from the SW (4).
The Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as an extant earthwork mound on the latest 2011 vertical aerial photography and was mapped as part of the Cheshire National Mapping Programme project. The mound is roughly circular and is sixteen metres in diameter, with the shallow curvilinear depression in its centre, as mentioned by Authority 4 (5). |
