More information : "There are at least 9 wells at different parts of Alderley Edge, the more conspicuous being Wizard Well and Holy Well". These two, and it is inferred some of the others, were used as Pin-wells up to the time of writing. See Map Diagram for their distribution: Wizard's Well and Holy Well are at SJ 8547 7803 and SJ 8590 7786 respectively (2). (1-2) Holy Well, the well adjoining it on the S.W, and Wizard's Well all consist of water percolating through sandstone into modern stone troughs. Above Wizard's Well is a carved face and inscription. There is no trace of antiquity at either of the Wells. The Well at Brynlow was created by subsidence, and the one near Church Quarry appears to be the water filled top of a mine shaft. The remaining four wells could not be located. (3)
