Summary : A chapel was extant on this site in 1244 when it was subordinate to Sandbach church. The advowson was held by Dieulacres Abbey in 1350 when the parishioners successfully appealed for their own graveyard at the chapel. In 1617, the chapel is described as timber-framed and had a nave, chancel and aisle South of the chancel. At this time an aisle was added North of the chancel. In 1667, a second aisle was added on the South side between the chancel aisle and the South porch. This was further enlarged in 1711. The chapel was demolished in 1792 and replaced by the present church. This is a simple nave, chancel and West tower, all of brick to the design of the village bricksetter. |
