More information : [SJ 51437357] Maiden's Cross [T.I.] (1) Maiden's Cross near Alvanley Cliff is a socketed stone, possibly the base for a forest gallows? (2) A probable socket stone of a wayside cross, c 0.8m square, socket 035m square, lying on its side in a hedge-bank. No trace was found of a base. See G.P. AP 63/157/5 (3) As described. (4) No change since reports of 2 11 62 and 19 6 64. Published survey (1:2500) correct. (5)
Maiden's Cross at NGR 5143 7357. Grade II. Plague cross, probably medieval. A camber-headed chamber (as used during plague quarantine for the exchange of goods and money) cut into front face of stone. (6)
SJ 5143 7356. The Maiden's Cross, wayside cross 520m SSW of Four Lane Ends. Scheduled RSM No 25711. Medieval wayside cross base with square socket hole, in situ on the parish boundary. It measures 0.85m wide x 0.48m deep x 0.45m high where visible. The original top of the block has chamfered edges 0.17m wide. The whole is worn but complete. (7)
