More information : Poosey Chapel, now in ruins, is situated within Dutton demain and in Runcorn parish between the river and the park pool. It was built in the reign of Henry III (1). The name signifies 'Island at a pool' and the park pool was presumably the dead arm of the R. Weaver under the bank of which lies Dutton Park. SJ 584777 (2). (1-2)
Poosey Chapel was built by and belonged to Norton Priory. It was constantly frequented by the neighbourhood until Robert, Lord Kilmorey came to live at Dutton where he kept a chapel. Then Poosey began to be neglected and by 1666 it was totally in decay, although part of the structure remained, according to Leycester. (3-4)
