Location :
Cheshire West and Chester
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SJ4057066100
Summary : The Parish Church of St Michael, now a Heritage Centre, is 15th century in origin, but was largely rebuilt by James Harrison in 1849-50. The chancel roof of 1496 is narrower than the present chancel, which was widened in 1678. Constructed from yellow sandstone, largely of 1849-50, under a grey slate roof, the church comprises a three-stage west tower, three-bay nave, two-bay chancel and former vestry. The south end of the Bridge Street Row passes through the open first stage of the tower, also serving as the west porch, with stone steps up to the main Row north and down to the pavement, south. The east end has a 4-light reticulated east window with stained glass and a 3-light window with stained glass by Clayton and Bell to the north aisle. Between 1972 and 1975 the church was stripped of its furnishings and has been used as a Heritage Centre since 1975.
