More information : [SJ 26469187] Leasowe Castle [GT] (Remains of). (1) Leasowe Castle, or the New Hall, now the King Edward VII Convalescent Home for Railwaymen, bears the date 1593 and is said to have consisted originally of an octagonal tower four storeys high. Four square towers were added from alternate faces probably between 1600 and 1642. The building became ruinous at the time of the Commonwealth and acquired the name of Mockbeggar Hall. Considerable additions and alterations were made in 1818. (2) Although the early fabric of Leasowe Castle is still largely intact, it is incorporated in extensive modern additions and the building is not architectually outstanding. See GP AO/64/234/3. (3)
