Summary : 13th century Abbey Precinct Walls of Beaulieu Abbey
More information : (SU 387025 Abbey precinct walling sited from authority 1 and OS 1:10000 1973 to Beaulieu Abbey. Exact location derived from map diagram of SU 30 SE 5). The extent precinct walling at Beaulieu Abbey, of 13th c date, is listed Grade II*:

a) Section 100m west of the motor museum (SU 38550262)
b) Section 150m north of Shireburn House (SU 38980286)
c) Section east of the extreme to Palace House (SU 38900243)
d) Section running east from the Outer Gatehouse to Abbey Cottages (SU 38750236)

All remaining extent section of precinct walling which have been restored, are grade II. (1)

DOE Listed Building information:

- Length of W wall of Abbey Precinct, 120m W of Motor Museum - 8m length of ruined wall, 1-2m high.

- Length of W wall of Abbey Precinct, 100m W of Motor Museum - 20m length x 3m high, fariley intact.

- Section of W wall of Abbey Precinct, 70m W of Palace Garages.

- Length of N wall of Abbey Precinct 50m E of Motor Museum - 22m length of wall.

- Length of N wall of Abbey Precinct 150m N of Shireburn House - c40m length x 3m high.

- Outer gatehouse ruins and length of precinct wall running E to Abbey Gate Cottages.

- Length of South Abbey Precinct wall, E of entrance to Palace House.

- Length of S precinct wall behind and E of Palace Lane Cottage (2a).

In field centred on SU 39220265, on alleged course of Abbey Precinct Wall, a large depression c25-30m diameter is cut into the contour. It appears too regular to be quarrying. There is drainage disturbance to the SW and possible remnants of ridge and furrow. (2)
