Summary :
The former Abbey Gatehouse, dated mid 14th century, was converted into a hunting lodge in circa 1540. It was enlarged to become part of a country house. It was extended early 18th century and enlarged 1872 by A.Blomfield. Built of coursed rubble stone, stone dressings and an old plain tiled roof.

Palace House, Beaulieu Manor Estate. Medium sized country house incorporating the mid 14th c monastic gatehouse. The latter was converted to a hunting lodge by Lord Wriotherly in 1540, extended in the early 18th c when a moat and turreted wall were built around the site and restored and much enlarged in 1872 by A Blanfield as Palace House. Grade I. Walls to the courtyard and bridge on the south side of Palace (early 18th c and late 19th c respectively) Grade II* (2-4)
