Summary : Site of a Roman building, probably a villa, first discovered in circa 1699. A mosaic pavement, painted wall plaster, pottery and animal remains were among the finds. The location of the building was confirmed in the 1930s by excavation. Further excavations have occurred since. Note that the site is included in Scott's gazetteer of Roman villas as three separate entries, twice under Lincolnshire (one due to an erroneous NAR number) and once under Humberside. The indicated site is now amongst housing. |
